CBT Academy

Learn how to use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to feel better, in a small group, at your own pace, without committing to 1:1 therapy.

Not ready to start individual therapy, but curious about how CBT actually works? CBT Academy is a small-group class where you'll learn the same core skills we use in 1:1 sessions - practical tools for the thoughts, moods, and patterns that keep getting in your way - alongside others who are asking the same questions you are.

Who CBT Academy Is For

  • You're curious about CBT but not ready to start 1:1 therapy.
  • You'd rather learn in a structured, academic way than through open-ended conversation.
  • You're not sure CBT is right for you yet, and sharing the cost with a group feels like the lower-risk way to find out.
  • You're comfortable learning in a class-like, small-group setting. For some people, learning alongside others is actually more comfortable than one-on-one.

Who CBT Academy Isn't Well Suited For

  • You're experiencing severe symptoms, distress, or functional impairment, for example, panic attacks, addiction, self-injury, trauma, suicidal thoughts, or psychosis.
  • You want a tailored, individualized approach to understanding your specific problems and how to apply CBT to them.

If either of these sounds like you, 1:1 therapy is a better starting point, and we're happy to help you find the right fit.

If you're currently in crisis or having thoughts of suicide, please call or text 9-8-8 (Canada Suicide Crisis Helpline) or go to your nearest emergency department. CBT Academy is not a crisis service and cannot provide urgent support.

How CBT Academy Is Different from Group Therapy

CBT Academy isn't the same as our Group Therapy program. Group Therapy is clinical treatment; it's therapeutic, tailored to what participants are individually working through, and led as a treatment process. CBT Academy is educational: a structured course that teaches you CBT skills and concepts in a class format, without a personalized treatment plan attached. Think of it as the difference between a class and a treatment session.

How it Works

Format:

Weekly classes, 1.5 hours per session, running for 5 weeks. A new class session starts every 6 weeks.

Cost:

$150 per session ($750 for the full 5-week course) - for comparison, a standard 1-hour individual session with a Psychologist costs approximately $250.

Location:

Held in-person at Dr. Collins' office at our Nepean clinic. A comfortable, relaxed space designed for small-group learning.

Frequently asked questions

Is CBT Academy the same as individual therapy?

No. CBT Academy is a psychoeducational course that teaches CBT skills in a group class format. It doesn't include an individualized treatment plan or clinical assessment. If you want tailored, 1:1 support, our individual therapy services are a better fit.

Can I join CBT Academy if I'm already seeing a therapist?

Yes. Many people use CBT Academy alongside individual therapy to reinforce the skills they're learning in session.

Do I need to know anything about CBT before I join?

No prior knowledge is needed. CBT Academy is designed to start from the basics and build from there.

Can I move from CBT Academy into 1:1 therapy later?

Yes, if you find you'd like more individualized support after the course, we can help you transition into 1:1 therapy with one of our providers.

How do I sign up?
